Snow on the Hoh

Being ever the tinkerer, I have never yet found a jig box that I really liked. I've been through the Scientific Angers fly boxes, the jig wallets, plastic lure boxes, one quart zip lock bags, etc. They're all good and I'm not looking to convert anyone from their own method here. Just thought I'd share my latest brainstorm.

I've tried to be a minimalist according to the doctrine of some of the best fishermen on this site and I've made a lot of headway. I've pared down to a single fanny pack, which is quite an accomlishment for an old dog with new tricks. However, one thing I could never shake is that I always like to carry a lot of jigs with me. Security? Vanity? Stupidity? Senility? I don't know. Maybe all of the above. But I can't shake it.

I recently came across some handy little plastic boxes - the kind that carry Cottonelle wet wipes.

After the product was utilized I grabbed the box and washed the fresh baby bottom scent out of it. (At this point, Mrs. zonker enters, rolls her eyes, and gives that look that says... well, I don't really know what it says, but you can probably imagine. She's a good woman, though. She's already bagged me about five of these boxes from our two daughters who are still in the baby making stage.) Grin

A side view.

I then took some little 2"x3" ziptop bags and slipped some of my jigs in them. Then I put them into the box. A perfect fit!

Slip in some dividers if you wish.

One box holds about 75-80 1/8 oz to 1/4 oz. jigs, all lined up neatly. The nice thing about these is that the jigs don't get tangled up with each other as they did in my jig wallet. There is little wasted space. They don't come unhooked and pile up in the bottom as they did with the SA fly boxes whenever I was bushwacking. Unlike pawing through a large ziplock bag, they make access as easy as thumbing your way through your income tax records in a file cabinet. (Ugly thought.) Jigs are kept clean, each in its own little baggie. No wasted space. No rattle. No bounce. Very cheap. They even fit perfectly into one or both of the outside pockets of the Plano fanny pack that I see wrapped around the middle of expert fishers like Brian and Fish these days.  Like they were made for it. I suppose other terminal tackle could be kept in these, including spinners and spoons, pre-rigged drift leaders, and just about anything that will fit into a 2x3 bag.

Neat. Clean. Quiet. Cheap. No crush. Simple.

After 3 or 4 trips, I really like 'em. Wink
