I have found the Mucilin floatant on mono to be a poor substitute for a good braided line if you want floatation.

The hardest part about braid on a levelwind is backlashes....they can kill your day!

So, what I did was buy an 11 ft. rod for my bait caster setup.  The longer rod allows me to keep the line off the water in almost all situations....I just use plain mono in this case and it works great.  the only drawback is using light rigs...in that case, I bust out my spinning outfit (with braided line on it)
