Snow on the Hoh

WWW
« Topic Start: December 16, 2005, 08:58:34 PM »

With cold, low & clear conditions we have been dealing with the past couple of weeks, the crowds tend to thin out in a hurry. During these times it's often a better bet to sleep in a little and hit the water for the last half of the day after the water warms up a degree or two. That was the case today as Chumdog, Fish and myself met up with Steelheader for an afternoon of jig fishing for some winter brats. I have had my best luck with these cold water fish by trying to cover as much water as possible looking for a couple of the more aggressive fish. This plan worked for us today as we all came home with fish. We covered a bunch of water on a nearly deserted river and ended up hooking up seven times and landing five of them. Had a great time on the water with the boys today and I was quite happy that everyone had a little action. Here are a few pics of the days catch, John will have to add the photo of his fish as I didn't get one with my camera.

Thanks for a great outing boys and it was a pleasure meeting Steelheader today. Next time Jeff, we'll have to really try to cover some water.   Grin

With low, clear conditions, I was quite pleased we all were able to hook and land some fish.  I kept my string alive, by crackering the first steel I hooked for the third  winter season in a row.  Angry

As always, it was a bunch of fun and laughs.  laugh I can't wait for the rain in the forecast next week.

Nice looking brats!  I knew when you said "deserted" you'd have a good day! Wink

There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Afro

Great looking hatchery fish. I was able to land two colored summers, but no winters. Sure looks like a lot of fun with Brian and the gang! Wink

Great looking fish, guys. I've gotta agree about the low water... personally, I love it. Fewer fishermen, defined holding areas, finesse presentations=a good time on the water.

As Matt mentioned, we also got out today away from the home stream, but all we turned up were a few summer-run. Guess we need to check the season and try again.  laugh

Hurray I finally got the first winter Steel under my belt this season, I thought I might have to wait till next month to finally score?

It was great getting out with the boys again and also to meet you Jeff (Steelheader) My new work schedule pretty much puts me in the fishing Solo mode but with the Holidays quickly coming I hope to get out and meet and fish with some of you guys I haven't met yet and of course with some of you Old Dogs.

Here's the picture of my Fat little Hen.

Way to go guys.  Good idea to sleep in and let the water warm up a couple degrees.
