You will pretty much get all my eggs if you drive, buy me coffee, row the boat, bring me lunch, and most importantly bring some decent cigars!  That's not asking for much is it? Huh  Oh, and clean my fish!   Dinner on the way home would be nice too! laugh

Boy I think you and John have it pretty good Brian.  At least you both row the boat too.  I have a hankering for a good cigar.  I will have to pick some up before the next trip.

for winter steelhead i like to use a brine..

pretty much what everyone uses...

1 cup sugar
1 cup salt
1 cup borax
4 cups water

i will then add other things..
like
country time (the drink mix)
smelly jelly (about 2 tablespoons, seems to help firm up the eggs)
other scents..

the secret to my eggs is love Wink

For steelies....I really like the Amerman steelie cure.  I know his salmon cure gets lots of attention, but the steelie cure is a darn good one too!    Just let 'em air dry for a while before freezing or refrigerating!

Sorry for late post...

We did a big ole thing of eggs on monday and we hadnt done it in probably a year...

We butterflied em... cookie sheet....newspaper....borax and some pautzke krill stuff....eggs....borax and some pautzke krill stuff... newspaper...

Let them sit for an hour and a half.... Either cut them up into bait size chunks or leave them... take ziploc... pour some borax... eggs and pour some more borax and a lil pautzke...

They have been in the fridge since then... You all think they will be alright?

An old timer once told me that using newspaper is a bad idea because the print will bleed onto the eggs adding a funky scent.  I usually use white paper towels when drying and part of a window screen mounted onto 2/4's.
Oh yeah, favorite cure?

I haven't fished with eggs in a number of year, and don't miss the mess at all.  For winter steel I use either a piece of prawn on a bead jig, or a small strip of squid on the same jig.

Squid meat is the real deal! Wink  I also think it offers the fish a nice change up as very few guys fish with it!
