Doh,........  I guess I should have been able to figure that one out!   Although I have never fished it, the Deschutes is up there on my list of rivers to fish soon. Along with the N. Umpqua, McKenzie, Elk & Sixes, Wilson in Oregon and a whole bunch of rivers north of the border.

I think the shortened version is usually spelled 'Chutes. laugh

And yes, I've fished it. But not for steelhead. Some of the resident redsides are big enough to be steelhead, though. Its a wonderful river. Huge bug hatches. The early summer Salmonfly hatch is the height of ecstacy for many flyfishers.

I've fished the mouth of the Dechutes for summer run and kings (a lot of guys, but a lot of fish being caught), but I've never fished for summer run up river. I've always wanted to fish the Dechutes, but always seem to stick to the WA side. You can find a lot of good info about the Dechutes' summer run on the internet though. It sounds pretty good.
