Last week I went 3 for 5 on an OP river so I thought I would hit it again yesterday.  Temps were in the mid-20's causing guides to freeze up and, I think, the bite to shut off.  My last trip there all the fish were caught bobberdoggling (from the bank) sandshrimp with a corky so I tried the same most of the morning...not a sniff.  The water was a little murky so I next tried a Steelhead pink 'Lil Thumper worm from Seducer...nothing.  Before trying a new approach I thought I would try some worms that were inspired by BC Steel's "Ultimate Pink Worm"  tutorial.  In my version of this rig the tail section is made from a pale pink 'Lil Thumper that has 1/4 inch cut off the nose.  The head has a 1 inch piece from a Steelhead pink colored 'Lil Thumper.  Both are threaded between 2 #1 hooks such that the lobe on  the tail section hangs free about 3/4 of an inch.  However I didn't bother to melt the 2 pieces together.   I tied one of these on and got a bobber down on about the 5th cast.  The fish turned out to be a 8 lb buck that made several short runs but put on a amazing aerial show.  It jumped probably 10 times...a lot of fun.  After releasing that one, I had another bobber down after about 20 minutes.  This one didn't put up much of a fight at first despite being mint bright.  After getting it in close it took off into the deep water and gave me a few decent runs before coming in and being released (about 5 lbs.).  So...hats off to BC Steel!

A few more things:
-Mike's Lunker Lotion reacts badly with Seducer worms.  I soaked some worms in this stuff for a few day and it caused them to become rock hard and shrivel to about 1/4 the size!  Although this is my favorite all around scent you might not want to use it with those worms.
-This season I've become a big fan of Danielson's Easy Drifter floats.  They are of good material but poorly constructed.  I yank the tube out and re-glue it in.  I also stick a 3/16" piece of tubing on the end, run the line through, and then fix the float simply by putting a 3/4" piece of 3/16th pencil lead into the surgical tubing.  Works great...even quicker to adjust than when having two bobber stops.
-Prior to the above mentioned trip I had 12 consectutive LDR's with pink worms.  These fish were landed with a hook hanging free below the worm and another above the worm.  One to the fish was hooked on the lower one and the other on the upper hook.  If you are losing fish on worms you might want to try a similar set-up.

Holy, sweet job on the fish

Even more amazing, someone heard what I had to say  Shocked

Along the same lines, I was trying out a pink worm on a jig yesterday for the first time. I fished through with pink/white jig/shrimp and came up empty. Changed up on my way back up river to the worm/jig and on the 5 or so cast whammo, a real good strike that pulled the worm down the jig but missed the hook. So I shortened up the worm a bit and casted it out there again except this time it was just a good take down. Missed him twice but now I know, they do work on a jig Cheesy

BC, I've had great success on the pink worm on a jighead. I very seldom miss a fish on this setup as they seem to really inhale those things. I do think it helps to go with a shorter worm or pinch off the head of a longer worm to increase your odds. I prefer a 3 1/2"  worm on a jighead. I think Bill may be onto something with his setup. If i start to miss alot of fish I may give it a try! Grin

Coastal Fisher, that jig in your avatar looks killer. Care to post a full sized pic of it?

I've melted up a bunch of worms and fished a few. I'm sure they will be seeing some use soon.

You guys keep coming up with some great ideas!
