Well went to hit the river today and things were going well for me. Well basically after 4 hours I finally got a hook up. Well avctually after 3 years I finally got a hook up with a steelie. I thought he was pulling too hard at first so I decided to give em a lil' slack and when I did that.. all the trouble started. First he got a few zips in... then a constant whine came from my reel til I thouight the fish was gonna spool me. So I tightened the drag again and the rod pulled forward til I got a POP!! HArd fighting fish, makes me wonder how big it really was... although I dont think there is anything that big in this river other than steelies, right now. By the way what does everyone use for lb. test on leaders.... because this thing had to be a monster the way it was devouring my line... I've landed 18 lb. chums, 25 lb. kings and a crapload of other fish with less than half the fight this thing was doing to me.

GOt so mad that I threw a temper tantrum but it was fun.... til I decided that I couldnt stop fishing... (I had to stop so I could pick up the woman.)... only way I was gonna stop was breaking my last leader... so I cast for five to ten minutes into the same hole that ate up 15 or so of my leaders that day and I got no success on snagging up. Finally I did... and lil' did I know that my leader wasnt snagged but my braided line was. So I pulled and forced and tried to get it to pop... when I grabbed the tip of my rod without thinking and popped the tip off. I finally reeled my line in... and I still had my leader. Tongue

On the way out, I twisted my ankle on a log and that completed my best fishing trip in three years. This is all true and I really fell back in love with the steelheading. Although, no fish were caught.. I am convinced that this lunker producing river took back a 25+ lb. steelie.

Well, gotta go and tie up some more leaders..... 20 should do.... got to hit that river again tommorow. Will post again, then.

Went back down there and didnt get so much as a bite. But I did find a group of smolts stuck in a puddle on the side of the river so I grabbed two up and was gonna take em home.... but figured they would die in my tank from shock.. so I released em back into the stream. This was the Sky by the way..... and I believe someone wrote about a small side river that had a steelie in it in the silt.... I think I know where that was... because Ive seen those two baldies a couple times out there.

Oh and Farmboy.... Whats up!!! Ummmm, Eric disapppeared to Bremerton... he doesnt have a computer but he still goes to Tacoma almost every weekend. He still hits the carbon here and there....although the last time I fished with him was on the Cle Elum River in the summer. I can tell him you've been trying to get ahold of him though.
