Tough one, for me it depends on the day.  When I get to the water I want to fish and determine the clarity and flow, that is when I can of figure out what I would have most fun fishing.  Lately, fishing eggs or a jig under a bobber has been my go to method and watching a bobber go down is pretty darn fun.  But man, I love jigging too, every pull up could be a fish!  But I must admit that I am really in the mood to chuck some spoons and current clarity and flows in my favorite creeks are just about perfect for spooning.  Gotta get out!

Drift fishing is still my favorite for steelhead. I get dizzy sometimes watching the float go by when I bobber and jig for too long. I feel like I am getting off a treadmill or something.  Tongue

I've only caught steelhead on jigs & spinners... Don't know much about free-drifting bait or using rags etc.

When the water drops a bit I might take you to where I got my float and egg confidence. Not sure of the late run timing just yet for that spot but there's only one way to find out.

i've got a problem.  it seems like every time the fishing gets good, i make it hard on myself.  hook a couple fish on eggs?  time to put on a gooey bob, spinner, etc.

when this thread was started, i don't think there would be any doubt that my vice(so to speak) would have been drift fishing.  however, over the past 5 or 6 years i've really grown, and along with the electrifying take when drifting, i've also developed an addiction to the slam-dunk "whack" of a spinner bite, as well as the thrill of seeing a float disappear while meandering its way downstream.

still, i don't think anything tops drift fishing for me, like many say, i feel it's the hardest tactic(aside from the realm of fly-flicking, which i still haven't yet been tainted by) to become proficient at and master.  hell, i don't think i'll ever master it, nor do i ever hope to.  it'll always give me something that i can get better at, and in the end, that's what really drives me.

For everyone that thinks driftfishing is difficult they forget the one fact the makes it much easier than all other methods...your "stuff" is always in the zone.

There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Afro

Steelhead: Spoons, Fly fishing, Drift fishing, Float fishing in that order.
Salmon, Spinners/Spoons, Float fishing, Drift fishing yarn/bait.

I fish more floats and baits/jigs, but i do like being on anchor with my hands by the heater watching the kwickfish/taddpolly getting smashed.

Gotta go with spoon fishing. Got out today for the first time in a month after having the Flu and then the chicken pox right as I was getting over the flu. Sure wish I would Of got them when I was a kid. Nailed a nice chrome six pound winter brat on the spoon, a few chum and a coho on the float and jig, and a beautiful two pound src on the drift gear. But theres nothing like a chromer hammering your spoon on the swing.

For me, nothing beats standing in a stream with a flyrod...... using flies that I have tied up and or created.  If its a brand new river for me and I manage to bump a fish or two, all the better.  But I have to admit throwing spoons has its excitement ( thanks Joe ).
