Hey guys. Fished the Carbon this morning with no luck. Saw one guy with about a 6 lb steelie. On the way back to the grange, I ran into the owner of the property that the trail we use is on. He was diggin holes for fence posts. He let me know that the trail is being closed down. He said he is having a garbage problem back there and he found 2 meth labs back there this week. He said he hates to have to close it down, but he doesn't know what else to do. I just thought I would give everyone a heads up before they drove down there and found it closed up. He said that it would have been closed down next year anyway because they are putting in a convience store where the grange is now.

Thats too bad about the accecss. It seems like every year fishermen loose access on many rivers because of a few people not respecting the landowners. On a side note I think I had a run in with the meth lab owners dogs on thursday. Those dang muts chased me into the river!! Those of you who know me can imagine how funny that was!

Does anyone know if there will be another spot nearby to access that part of the river once the trail is closed? Thanks

One of my favorite spots down here in Oregon was posted this year - a 100 yard stretch of great water that I've been fishing it for 15 years. I've resisted getting a drift boat but if it keeps going the way it is that may be the only alternative.

The owner did say that he would like to try to work something out in the futurre to still be able to give fisherman access to the trail. Let's hope he can do that. Otherwise, it looks like you will need to park in Orting and take the trail down.

Sad, real sad. Once agin the fishermen lose another access. I hope that something can be worked out.

I hate hearing of this kind of thing at yet another one of the few access points we have had the privilage to use. :mad:The thing that stinks the most, do I dare say even more then the dead chum on the carbon right now, , is that it's obviously not the folks on this site creating the problem, yet once again we are the ones who have to pay the price do to the falt of others who don't give a rip... No kidding. How hard is it to just clean up after yourself and not toss baggies, pop cans, or even wads of fishing line just because these people are too lazy to hold on to it until they get to a garbage can. The few of us who do get screwed...like others have mentioned maybe a drift boat will do the trick, but still...it isn't the same.

I'm mad too. Not sure I buy the meth lab thing, but there sure is a lot of garbage along those trails. Careless stupid folks should not be allowed to visit rivers. I think that guy is going to have a hard time keeping that trail closed come September and the king run. Might be a riot!

I was down there this fall when the law was removing one of those meth labs. Those methheads are trunning into a real problem. What are those cemicals doing to the river?

I went to the Carbon today and tried to park on Hwy 162 across from the Treatment Plant. The City of Orting has placed 3 signs there (in the last couple of days). The time is limited to 30 minutes. which effectively stops fishermen from parking there.

I too talked with the owner, but last year. He said guys from a web site was going to come down and help clean up the trail and river bank. He mentioned the idea of putting in a "user pay parking lot" to try keep the trail opened. He feels he is running out of options.
