First off I didn't invent this method, I simply saw it rigged up this way at the counter at Sportco. I asked Herzog about it and he indeed rigged it up himself upon seeing it done that way up in Canada. I was curious about it since I often thread a smaller 3" worm on a jig hook when using worms under floats. The problem with that is that you can't go any bigger because of the risk of increased short strikes. This is a great way to go if conditions dictate using a 4-6 inch worm. In the pictures, I'm using a 4.5" seducer worm. First step is to get some brass or lead bullet weights. I have shown 3/16 oz. and 1/8oz. I like to powder paint them a pearly pink. Zog showed me his pearly paint job and said that's the sh*t in some fashion or another. I used a bent spinner wire to hold the head under heat and to make sure no paint was left in the hole. Next take a octupus style hook and tie a regular egg loop leader on it. Here I have a 1/0 gammi with 12# izor to get ready for the big uns. Then thread on a bead followed by the bullet weight (skinny tip down). Next you'll need a bait threader. Put your leader through the threader and start the point of the threader into the head of the worm. I like to thread the leader through the first 1/3 of the worm and then exit. This lets it really flop for some nice action. I then simply tie it under my normal winter float set up, using about 15"-24" of leader depending on the stream I'm fishing.

~Mike~ There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Great looking rig Mike! I think I may have to give this a try out on the coast this year. Those big nates should go crazy over this setup.

Looks very slurpable. I've done well using 3 1/2" Seducers rigged that way (without the weight though). I've hooked up under a float and also drift fishing. However, this rigging makes the bait spin quite a lot and this is really a problem when drift fishing...not a big deal under a float.

right on....I can say for sure that "floppy style" really works...its a great setup. It tends to give more action to the worm.

I was a little curious, have you guys ever had a short strike on the end of the worm that doesn't have a hook? Seems that could be an issue. Or does Mr. Fish just slurp up the whole thing?

Sorry for late post.
I rigged my worm like this the other week without the weight... and the worm just about tore off!!! Did I rig it wrong?
Thanks Greg

You don't want to jerk too hard or too often!

Dean, I've overcame the "too hard" but I'm still working on the "too often".
