I've been wanting to try some of these floats. Anyone using them? Thoughts? What makes them better than the standard dink?

Anywhere in the South Sound area carrying them?

If I were to go the mail order route who has them?

thanks in advance

I have no doubt that the Friar of Floats aka Zonker will post the reply you are looking for, DR aka Boss of Bobberdogging.  Grin

Man Bugs. You beat me too it!

DR,

I use them. (I also use dinks for larger loads.)

Here is my take:

They must be used as sliding floats with stoppers. They have no side angled holes like some of the dinks. If you like sliders, you'll like these.

They are not blunt on the ends like dinks, making retrieval a little easier as they don't have to push any water.

They come in every size imaginable, easily identified as to the weight they will carry.

They are readily available down here. Good quality dinks are hard to find where I live. Also, when you do find them (dinks) they are usually available in only one or two sizes.

They cost more than dinks - depending on size, as much as twice more.

Would I cash in a pile of dinks for a pile of WC's? Yes, it it didn't cost me too much. I doubt that the steelhead care.

But I do. Grin

I really liked them. I'll stick with the "Drifterat Dink" when wanting to keep it fixed, but I'll be using the inlines for the sliding dinks...

I'm a big fan of West Coast Floats.  As Zonker mentioned, they come in a variety of sizes and are practically indestructible.  I mainly use them as a sliding set-up but they can be rigged as a fixed float by jamming a toothpick in the top of the float.  Another way to use them as a fixed float is to put a bobber stop on the top and bottom of the float.

Nice idea on the double bobber stop!  Never thought about that solution.

There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Afro

I like em.....I found that I like the 1/8 size to sit down in the water a little more, so I drilled out a small "egg" sliding weight and jammed it up onto the lower stem.  This helps keep the float upright, and its fixed and part of the float.  I also use a second bobber stop below the float to "fix" it.  I ordered some out of Fisherman Shack in Oregon with my last jig head order.  Sportco does carry a cheaper knock-off, but they were out of the 1/8 and 1/4 last time I checked.  Grin
