While on the log home site get some 3/4" dual backer ,(comes in 50' sections for cheap $) cut into desired length, center hole it and turn out a batch of floats. I've been making them myself for awhile and shaping them on the home made cork handle rodbuilding lathe, (stationary drill with 5"x1/8" screw through the center). Maybe I'll try and do a how to with pics on this one. Once you get set up you can make a slew of tight riding, highly detectable 75%er's for a fraction of the cost of shop bought!

Joe,

You gotta put up that tutorial on float making! I have a roll of charcoal 3/4" backer rod that I'm itching to turn into floats. Some instruction would be great, especially about how to shape them and paint them. It would be one of the most popular tutorials on the site, I predict.

Please go for it!

I'll have to "wine" the wife in order to get it on here, as I am below inept in the digital camera and pic posting dept. and will regretedly have to ask for her assistance! The toughest part by far in the process is getting the hole dead center so as to turn it evenly. I'll try to get it going as soon as possible.  Joe

Thanks for the link redhook!  It makes me dream of having a cabin on the Hoh where I can go to every weekend.

Casey, I will take you up on your offer.  I love to make rags!  I should be able to hook up with you the next bunch of days, since, you know, I won't be fishing! :'(

There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Afro

Nice jigs!  I like the pearly pink!  The bead jigs are like making rags, you can get the whole production going and they all look perfect and alike.  That makes me feel like I've accomplished something.
