As I sit here recalling my last sockeye success, I try to rationalize the upcoming Lk. Washington opener. While each is entitled to his or her fun and frolic, I wonder what the attraction really is to this frenzied fishery? The majority of those die hards that hit this lake in search of these silver morsels of delight, will go to great lengths of frustration and fuddle, to fulfill their bag limits. Pushing through waves of floatable devices of all sorts, excruciating waits at launches packed with crackers, all in hopes of finding that elusive sockeye. I try to rationalize this fishery as a fun and festive atmosphere, but repetitive thoughts of frustration in achieving success is all I seem to be focused on. While I will miss the antics of some, I regretfully inform you that I will not feel remorse for missing this fishery at all.  Your thoughts? |

Shhhh.... Please keep it down... Lake Washington for sockeye is one of my most guarded ziperlips. If word of this gets out there could be dozens of people fishing out there tomorrow.  I'm going to brave it. Mostly because I love fresh sockeye. This is my first time in the sockeye-circus so I'll let you know if it's worth it afterwords. |

Dont know but I can tell you this the sportsmans warehouse has pretty much sold all there dodgers and most of there red hooks!!!! Glad I still have my stuff from previous seasons!!! I'll be hitting the madness monday morning!

Kind of fun to sit in a lawn chair and watch at the boat ramps..... Makes Blue Creek fishery look mellow.  I tried it once. |

I fished them up there once, and boy ws it a zoo. At least the beer was cold.
I've never thought much of sockeye for eating(I'm a king guy) so I doubt if I'll ever go up there again. All those who do, have fun!!

I'm gonna try it. I've always been on the back of a seiner up in AK during the LW fishing seasons. I'm heading up in a half hour. Hopefully it will be a quick strike and out by 10 AM or so. Anyways it might be a good time although I don't like eating Sockeye either.

Well we are back home and its 7:50 AM. It was a pretty fun experience. I thought it was pretty painless and not all that bad at the launch. Took six nice Sockeyes in about an hour. They fight a little bit anyway. Won't be back though as it was just a little diversion from the salt.

Sounds like I taught MooseEyes well Shawn Even I can remember "red hooks 12 inches behind a size 0 dodger and troll real slow"! There was lots of smack talk on Ch. 68 from folks from another popular fishing site. But when Shawn, his wife and I limited by 6:15 I let them know Team Steelhead Notebook was heading home with limits!  Thanks for the opportunity, Shawn!! |
