Winter or spring in heavier flows; 10' or 10'6" baitcaster, 8-15# or 8-17# line rating with Shimano Cardiff 200 (12# mono). Summer or fall in lower flows; 9'6" or 10', fast action 9 weight fly blank built into spin rod with Shimano Sahara 2500 (10# mono with spare spool of 20# braid). I also use the 10' 9 weight spinning rod for winter float rod (30# braid). Joe

Well, I'm a long time fisherman, but a pretty new steelhead guy. I like gear that has bang for the buck. I have two 10 ft Lami cert. pro blank rods with Fuji fittings, one spinning and one casting. I paid $85 bucks each for them from an ex-Sage employee that makes them. I don't know how he makes any money, but the rods are fine. I'll give you his phone number if requested. As for reels, I use Shimano Calcuttas casting, and Spirex spinning. I've had Diawa Pro-casters and Abu Ambassedeaurs and a few of others, the Shimanos work better and last longer. The "old school" Quantums that our mentor Brian uses are good reels too.
Its irritating that all the fish are running the rivers now and its so muddy you would feel silly fishing. Looking forward to when they clear up a little. I hope there's a few hatchery fish left when they do, my wife likes it when I bring a fish home now and then.
Phil

there is some good fishing to be had right now!
No kidding and I can't even take a day off during the week to hit it. This is KILLING me! 3 weeks of vacation and we're so busy at work that I can't even take a day of it until the middle of Feburary. Hi my name is Shane and I'm a forced Weekend Warrior... :'(
