I have never fished the Veddar, but I know of a couple of regulars that have fished it once or twice. All I know is there was a semi tractor/trailer rig in the Veddar canal last week that really screwed up my drive home. Welcome to our litltle corner of the steelhead world.

If your looking to try something different I would recommend spoons, spinners, or jigs. Do a search on this forum and you will find a ton of information about all of these techniques. Don't be afraid to ask questions about specific techniques. I'm sure you will get worthwhile reponses.

As has been suggested spoons, spinners, jigs, wool, prawns, ghost shrimp, jensen eggs, spin-n-glos. Theres all kinds of things to try but try and stick to 3 or 4 and gain confidence in using them.

Hey Chilliwacko, I have jigs available in local tackle stores or you can get them direct through me at www.bentrods.ca . Theres lots of info on how to fish them on the site as well. I fish the Vedder heavily and live right near it, trust me when i say they will hook you up with steelhead.

Chilliwacko- I've never fished the Vedder, infact the only steelhead fishing I've done in B.C. has been on V.I. I do fish spinners and spoons down here in Washington. Fishing spinners and spoons is a great way to cover a lot of river quickly. If you do have an interest in hardware check out some of the older publications from Jed Davis as well as Bill Herzog. Jed has a book dedicated to steelhead spinner fishing and Herzog has a book on spoons. Both are from 1980's and put out by Amato Publications. But before you do that do as Brian suggested and search this board, lots of info on the subject here at the Notebook, not too mention some newer ideas and methods that have been established since those "old" books were published, can be found on this site. If you are looking for a specific brand of spinner or spoon I would highly recomend RVRFSHR Products, which you can link to from this site. You have to mail order the stuff, but well worth the while. Unless you have something comprable on your side of the border, nothing really beats the price or quality of those spinners and spoons. For winter fishing I usually go with size four spinners, but the Vedder is good sized and a #5 would probably be best. Silver is usualy a good color for winter, but there lots of options. That's where your time in research comes in. Jigs under a float is easy and effective, again search for that stuff on this site as well as other sites and then focus on the re-occuring themes you see again and again. LL- Just remember ouzels only work well when fished with a rod that cost more than 300.00
