Small offerings - small size, dull colors, nothing bright. Light colored line no neon stuff. Go with low test line. Remember if your fishing low, clear water and it's sunny - watch your shadow. Stay low/out of sight so you don't spok 'em out the hole before you get a chance at 'em.

Make your presentation as natural as possible and be stealthy. Many people get scared off by low water. Yopu can do really well if you take your time and approach from a distance. If a steelhead isn't disturbed they will be in the darndest of places, even if it's low and clear. Super secret stuff right here....peach colored jigs or a tiny piec of roe ,maybe sandshrimpies too. Grin

Something that works on low and clear that is never thought about and I've used is Drifting a steehead fly you would use for summerruns, standard drift gear 2-3 leaders light lead, this can be very good Grin besides it gives them something deferent they ain't seeing alday, everyday Cheesy

I think many anglers are too quick to down size their lures, baits, and lines when the water gets lower and clearer, especially in the winter and spring...but it applies as well in the summer.

I'd say that 75% of the time I use the same line size, baits, and lures that I'd be using under "optimum" conditions, but I'll be fishing them a little differently, or in different areas of the river...

This is especially true chasing native steelhead in the spring...they'll continue to hit the exact same lures they'll hit when the water is nice and green, but they won't be hanging in the same places as when the water is nice and green...get your gear back under the log jams, in between the boulders, and under the heavy water...same gear, different spots.

When things get really crazy low and clear, then downsizing and chilling out on the flash and color is a good move.

Fish on...

I will have to agree with Todd on this one... regarding winter fish. Basically same lures in different holding stations. If your river is of very small nature it just has to be given a break until flows come back up to snuff.

Hey !  I like that pic of the Muddler Minnow with that little touch of Flash-A-Boo.  Greg:  I'll see if I can dig out a Muddler Minnow and a Black Bunny out of my fly box [arsenal] and borrow the wife's digital camera and post a pic of the two.  This may take awhile though.  Tight lines !
