Hey guys i'm new to the forum, but i love fishing for steelhead. I have quite a bit of experience but never really have fished or seen people fish jigs. So that concept is totally new to me, what i'm looking for are colour combos that work well. I tie flies for salmon so i got all the material.

First off, welcome to our forum.

As far as jig colors go a few of my favorites color combinations for summer runs are:

Black/ cerise
Black/ red
Nightmare - white head, red body, black tail
Purple/ pink

For winter runs it is:

Pink, pink and more pink. Grin

You may want to also do a search on this forum as this topic has been discussed many times. You will find alot of good info by searching through some of the old posts. Good Luck!

There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Afro

Oh Yeah, when all of your normally productive colors fail to produce, tie on a bright orange thing and be prepared for a savage take! Grin

Seriously, when you have spotted a fish and it ignores all your normal patterns, keep tossing different colors and sizes until the fish takes. My favorite saying for these fish is: "You spot em, you got em!" Grin

Hey young gun, check out this link for a sample of how to tie a Schlappen over bunny style jig.
http://www.bentrods.xplorex.com/page190.htm

As for colors, in the rivers of the lower mainland I have success on all sorts of color combos.
Red/flame
Flame/ orange
purple/cerise
Chartruese- great for the Vedder when vis is not great.
Pink/white

Work on presentation and match colors to conditions and your good to go.
Theres lotsa stuff in my articles section on fishing jigs as well and with the stuff on Brians site you should be busy reading for some time.

You can get excellent quality jigs from a couple of our sponsors. Contact Mark at First Bite Jigs or Steve at Kramer Tackle. They can set you up with whatever you need. You can find links to their websites on my links page here:
