Just put in an order fo 50 spoons last week. Waiting for them to show up so I thought I would ask everyone if they have any special tips or methods for using these spoons. I want to concentrate on spoons and colorados for coho and steelhead this year, no more guts. Thanks in advance.

Feed line, take up line, not to much tension, not too little... yeah just right.

~Mike~ There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water. Put that in your pipe and smoke it!

Cast upstream, across the current, let it drop a little and FISH ON!

Depends on current speed. Its a game of give and take, line wise. For long runs usually a straight away cast or slightly down stream, follow the spoon with the rod, give a little line in short bursts to keep in proximity to the bottom with out giving slack, continue to follow with the rod and repeat as necessary, as the swing starts to end you will probably have to raise the rod higher and higher to create more lift on the spoon and then start a slow retreive as it comes in tight to shore. Step down and repeat. In pockets I use mostly rod positioning to get the desired wobble with little in the way of give or take.
Cant go wrong with Joes products, its the only metal I use now for swinging.

The best advice I can give when using rvrfshr spoons is to hang on tight !

Foam TBL on a slight line. (Cast into slack surface buckets with a tumble, bang, lift presentation on a line almost not under tension.) Try and always use a rod that has correct backbone to set the wire diameter siwash hook you are using. Anything under a size #1 hook is not that big of a deal but for #1/0's and heavier, an upper end line rating of between 12 -17 lb. is best.
I will comment on Brian's suggestion on the "hang down" and "dangle" as being one hundred percent correct especially for silvers, they are an end of swing gobbler. When the fish hits on the downstream swing... let em' nose it... let em' nip it... let em' mouth it... in unison reel up and swing rod tip slowly to bank for solid side of mouth hookset. Resist "hook set fever" until moving weight of fish is felt whenever possible.
Good luck out there, I needed some more of it yesterday !
