I just picked up a few BC steel 2/3 oz spoons.  Can't wait to use them.  The seem like they will be able to get down on some of the deeper holes we have here up north. Anyone had luck experience with these??

I have lots of the 2/3 pen-tac and I really only use them as a last resort.  IMO they are too heavy without any change in surface area.  Therefore their action isn't nearly as nice as the 2/5.  Weight isn't the answer, a guy is much better off working on getting the 2/5 down by manipulating the spoon.  What a guy really needs in the deeper holes is a spoon in the 1/2 oz weight that is longer like a crocodile spoon or ottogator.  The biggest spoon I really need is the rvrfshr 1/2 oz.  12# test and a lift of the rod  tip to "stack" the spoon, followed by a burst of line from under the thumb is all a guy need in most deeper holes.

There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Afro

Mike,

First of all Ottogator is spelled with a capital O... Secondly, "stack and burst of line technique" should be referred to as the TBL from here on out... Thirdly, please refrain from using 12# line and 2/5 oz. spoons if I am fishing behind you !

Slim 5/8th's ounce spoon indeed...

So for fishing just your coastal rivers(Hump, Hoh, Queets...ect) a 1/2oz rvrfshr 50/50 will cut it for most winter steelhead waters?  And also if you dont mind could anyone suggest a few finishes or colors that work better than others in different situations.  I use to be into spoon fishing alot and then got out of it for a while but I really want to get back into hardware and Im also only 15 so Im sure my experiance levels are not as high as most people here so incase some of you are wondering that would kind of explain all my recent questions.  Thanks a bunch.
