Snow on the Hoh

WWW
« Topic Start: December 14, 2007, 03:18:13 PM »

After spending yesterday looking for steel, but only battling chum and coho,... and then seeing Mavrick's stellar report from the same stream, I couldn't help but to make another run down today. Only a few cars in the parking lot when I got there, including at least one big ol' truck that I recognized. Wink  My goal today was to cover lots of water in the hopes of finding at least one steelhead. I opted to work downstream today and was pleased to not find anyone else working through the classic runs down there. I went without a bite all the way down to the last hole I wanted to fish, where I found aggressive chum everywhere in this run. It was fun for a bit, but I soon got tired of these bad boys. I decided to leave these gnarly dogs and began working my way up a long classic drift that screamed steelhead. About mid drift I had a sharp take down and expected to be rerwarded with another chum, but this time the water erupted in chrome as a hot little hen tore up the drift. This feisty hatchery hen made my morning and fought much better than her 6 pound frame would suggest with screaming runs ending in big cartwheeling  leaps. Hottest winter run of the year for me to date and was just what I needed after a couple of steelheadless trips. I am encouraged about the upcoming season as it has started way better than I had expected. Hope everyone else is finding some hatchery chrome as well. See you on the water!

What a pretty little fish!  Just the motivation I needed to get on the road tonight.

Great looking fish Brian.  I just missed you by a few minutes when I stopped to talk with Rich, the PSA guy you had just met.  I was looking forward to your report and pic  Wink.  Just a few chum and a little silver for me today, nice day to be out though  Grin

i was out there today -- ran into joe(iwantchumluvin) and he pulled a red-striper out of in front of me with that infamous carrot jig of his laugh.

started out working my way down, saw about a half dozen guys out in front of the treatment plant and decided to work up towards the hatchery.  seen a bug tosser lose something big, couldn't tell what it was exactly.

Nice fish Brian! I was down there also for a few hours but could not find any chrome myself.  I was suprised to see so many other anglers though, especially for a weekday!

Funny you should mention that Eric. A reply to this thread was removed by one of the moderators due to some really flagarant violations of the user agreement as it applies to language. Seems someone is not too happy with the recent talk about "the local river". He seems to think that this will result in the same flossfest that is the norm during the fall salmon season, thus , and I quote.."distroying aney sollitude we locals had on the river".  I think you can tell by the creative writing style that this guy knows what he's talking about. laugh  I'm not too concerned about an increase in pressure down there. I have only heard of one or two fish hooked on any given day lately, and I don't think that fishing could be considered "hot" by any means. Have fun down there guys! Grin
