5-08-08 Tanwax Lake I wondered if I should go fishing because I couldn’t make up my mind which lake to go to. Then the tip of my new pole broke. I also didn’t feel good. So I wondered what sort of calamity might befall me today. It was overcast and breezy when I got to the lake. I launched and caught my first fish right by the ramp area. Then I went over by where the creek area is, north of the ramp and used a bobber and worm catching one, the smallest. It was windy and showers came down. Then the sun came out. Then it was just windy and I was cold so I crossed over to the south side of the lake by the ramp (west end) trolling my go to lure the salmon roe Z-Ray. After heading east for about 5 minutes I caught a good sized trout (14”-1.25lbs.) that I had to let fight before getting it into the boat. I couldn’t get my hand around it to unhook it. I had to just grab the hook and shake. It is the biggest fish this year. So I kept going east until I turned at Camp Lakeview to the north side of the lake. This is where I caught the last 2 and I headed back the west for the ramp so I could go home. I caught these fish in 3 hours, 9am to 12pm. Best catch this year. I forgot to get the temperature of the lake. I think the only calamity was the wind making me cold and the tip of my new pole breaking, otherwise great day catching.

Been catching pretty decent sized Kokanee in American Lake. Fish are more consistent at around 40' but we hit some at 25'. A good depth sounder and downriggers are essential if you want to get your limit. Best colors have been pink and red. Favored scents were Crawfish and DNA (Dick Nite Attractant.) The scent goes into your little containers of White Shoepeg corn. Don't overlook the Kokanee as they are very tasty fish. Much cheaper then Copper River Sockeye!

Just for you, Justin . . .
Last month I took my dad and nephew to Drano to celebrate my dad's 75th birthday. Here's a picture of one of the two springers he bonked.

That's what I'm talkin about... Thanks for the replies... I may head to american as well on Sat. morning in the toon (minus the downriggers)... Terrapin, do you think I'd be okay anchoring up and going 40 pulls to the zone and still fishing with a glo hook and maggot or would I have better luck just guessing my trolling depth and trolling a wedding ring/flasher combo?

Looking for a new fishing buddy. E-mail me.

I've been out fishin' for kokes too. There are more out there this year and they are easier to catch. Thing is, they're smaller this year than last years.

Justin,
There were plenty of trout cruising on top. You may just be able to have some fun with them. I think your best plan for Kokes would be to bring your cell phone, call Ron, and jump in the boat with us...

Been out pounding Sturgeon lately, 27 to the boat the other day, 15 landed today including a 7-8 footer, I will post a few pics once my clients send me the pics from their cameras. Not Steelhead, but they are fighting good and starting to jump more as the water warms. Bait of choice is no surprise, Oolichans(otherwise called smelt) .
