Hello, All:

After lurking for a LONG while, I've decided to get in the game.  I have been primarily a drift fisherman for the last 6 years only deviating from that to throw plugs and the occasional Vibrax for coho and chinook.  I recently purchased a new Riverwolf Drift boat and will be hitting the water soon for 'Nooks and silvers.  i am located 1 mile from the confluence of the North and South Forks of the Umpqua and word is the kings have arrived!!

I have learned alot by searching different topics, but need fresh advice concerning spinner (read rvrwhirler) size for coho...and color if I should be so bold.  With no offense to Joe I am thinking of trying out the "Hootchie Spinners" that Todd recommended last fall for Silvers on the Main Umpqua.  Any light you all could shed would be greatly appreciated.

Regards,

Brent

as with anything, size your spinner to the conditions.  3s, 4s and 5s in silver, gold and copper will cover most situations(steelhead, too!), with gold being one of the better all-around colors.

carrying a variety of prism tapes and a couple assorted bottles of nail polish in the boat is not a bad idea either, to be able to match their moods.  coho in my experience can be either super aggressive, hitting anything that moves, or incredibly finicky and wanting a certain color(there's been days on the chehalis when they only seem to want a yellow body with red polka dots laugh ).

Low and/or clear water, I'd go with a #4 copper or #4 gold...step up to a #5 gold if the water is colored at all, or a #5 silver if it's murky.

Same with spoons...3/8 copper or brass in lower and clearer water, stepping up through 2/5 gold or silver to a 1/2 ounce 50/50 in the biggest or murkiest water.

It matters less with the hootchie spinners...I put all of them on #5's or they won't get down deep enough.

Fish on...

hootchie spinners are amazing, i catch tons of silvers on them. i also like a pink worm trailer on plugs{ hotshots, brads wigglers etc.} i like a size 4 or 5 chartreuse /chrome with a pink hootchie.

good luck

We do not know what an "Andrew" is Master. Will you tell us?

We do not waste our time with trout rods and summer fish, as you know Sir.

After receiving a confusing phone message regarding my new Notebook account I had to come check in and see what the problem was.

I am honored to be accused, but this fine new board member isn't me.

Remember before jumping to any conclusions, Todd... you have many, many enemies.
