So I had a few spinners and some spoons that were tarnished, unfortunately they were too big for summer conditions, so I tried cleaning them up.  Isopropyl alcohol didn't do a thing except dry my fingers.  Baking soda didn't do much better.  Then I turned to toothpaste and toothbrush.  Just happened to have some expired tubes layin' around and a bunch of old toothbrushes I've been saving for "just in case they might come in handy someday".  Well someday came and man was I happy.  Wet the lure and the brush.  Squeeze out a pea sized glob of toothpaste, then brush away.  Rinse off lure and repeat as necessary until desired level of shininess is attained.  Heavily tarnished lures took multiple brushings, but in the end they came out shiny.  Not shiny like new, but at least shiny enough to reflect light again.

I don't take credit for this idea as I picked it up somewhere... sadly I can't remember where.  To whoever came up with this idea,   great

remember to wash them off good with some scentless soap or something, or else they're gonna stink of minty toothpast

Gotta agree with Younggun.  Soon I'll be polishing up some ol' Flash'n'Glos.  Gotta make sure you get all those chemical smells off of them lures.  Those salmon got a darn good sniffer !

Use original Crest toothpaste. Salmon will not shy away from it!

Hey salmon could like mint, it could be the new rave in fishing   Wink. But it is always a good idea to use some lemon joy to rid of the funk smells. I usually give my lures a good bath around every other month or when they start getting rusted/funky smelling.

Save those rusty lures in a box, and then send 'em to me.  I'll make good use of them.

If they are rusting up your not fishing hard enough with them. Well before they rust up they should be lost in a snag or the mouth of the monster that breaks you off. laugh
