I'm getting into tying mode for winter steelhead season...

Just wondering if anybody knows where you can get black brass beads in 11/32" or 9/32" for steelhead jigs.  I've found a lot in smaller sizes for fly tying, but none big enough yet.  I have a few store bought jigs from a while back with black beads, but I can't remember where they're from!  I tried experimenting to tarnish them myself, but it just looks like dull brass (which could also be cool...)

While I'm at it, what kind of hooks does everybody use?  I'm probably going with rvrfshr - used some of their spinners over the weekend and the sickle hooks are pretty killer!

Thanks for any info as always! Grin

The gold plated beadheads are 3/32 of an ounce, and the silver plated are 3/16 of an ounce.

Some suggestions if you really want black beads:

a.  Use a black sharpie pen to color up a brass bead

b.  Go to your local craft store and buy 8 mm hematite beads, the cheapest packs you can find.  They're a dark gray and weigh about 1/8 ounce for the 8mm hematite beads

Hematite looks great in the water, too...the beads that come with our Rvrworm packs are hematite.

How come you use the 60 degree hooks? Just preference?

They hold the fish alot better, there is no gap for the fish to wiggle off. Plus those jigs are killer when reqs require barbless hooks.

Awwwww, dude just buy some I'm telling you.... Matzuo hooks are ftw!
I primarily use them for the fact that when used barbless, they have been the most consistent producers for me.
And there sharp as hell, plus its nice supporting a local based company and Joe and Todds customer service is top notch.  Wink If you buy some Hawg i might send you some new scissors, and you can consider that your Christmas present from me to you  laugh

I agree with Rossiman, these produce the most consistent results for me when the regs require me to fish barbless. Rarely lose a fish.
