Does anyone have any experience at repairing the felt on the bottom of their wader boot? I currently have a nicer pair of boots that I am not ready to throw out. The felt has started lifting. I have been using SHOE GOO to attach the felt back to the boot but this seems to hold for only a short duration. I have also purchased a felt repair kit but it seems SHOE GOO works better than the adhesive in the kit.

I have also used a repair kit with good success. The trick I used was to use a electric grinder with a wire wheel to get rid of the old felts. Then apply the new ones.

There was a great article in STS many years ago about this topic with detailed instructions on how to do this. I'll try to dig it up and share the info with you.

I thought Shoo Goo and Aquaseal are pretty much the same thing/material/compound?

Shoo goo and AquaSeal are not good adhesives, however they are awesome when abrasion resistance is needed. They work for fixing small holes in waders, etc... Not for bonding two items together. AquaSeal cures more pliable than Shoo Goo. AquaSeal is from Bellingham, Shoo Goo is from Jupiter.

For felt the best adhesion of felt to boots use Gorrila Glue, by far better than any thing else out there. So good the glue will last longer than the new felt! Make sure you are bonding two clean surfaces, evenly clamp the crap out of the stuff for the best bond. The craziest thing is that you also need to get both surfaces damp with water before gluing/clamping. I've found that damp felt bonds better than dry and if you read the directions on the bottle it says to dampen surfaces before adhering.

Good choice. Just remember that Gorilla glue will expand, so don't set your boots on the dinning room table when you are waiting for the glue to cure. If you have worked with this type of glue before you will do just fine.

I would rather have a little extra glue on my boots than not enough.
