If any of you out there are like me, you've been fishing this low water not too much differently than you would "normal" low water. My thought on the situation has been, well the water is still very cold and the fish still need that extra stimulation to take an offering... Sunday morning found me with a few hours to spend on stream. I fished pink worms, not the big ones, but 3-4 inch variety. No luck covering water quickly with the worms. With about a half an hour left to fish I "Change it Up", using a 1/16 oz jig (sparse summer nightmare variety) I move to even smaller and clearer water to fish 2 more runs. It took a few casts in the second run to get the drift just right... then - float down!! Arm up!! Fish on!!

sweet fish man. I think u should keep throwing that curve ball of urs. I see a lot of dudes throwing roe, bugs, pink worms. And they hook fish, but i think if u present something different and get it infront of a willing fish, it will hit that more often than not. By the time april comes around these vedder fish have gone through highschool and university.

Thanks all, it's been a tough winter season -although it's been pretty regular for me (skunk, skunk, chromer...). Cannot beat the weather we've had lately for having nice days on the water, but I'm glad for some rain. My optimism meter is pegged for the upcoming weeks! I think that it is time to retire that jig - it has put in its time and then some Barely anything left of it... Of course I've had flys that were worn down to a few strands of deer hair and one little tuft of color and they keep producing for some reason right down to almost the bare hook - that might teach us something about the benefits of a minimalist approach...

It's all about the nice chunk of prawn or shrimp on the good quality jig hook that matters..............

Oh nice Ed... just give up "the secret" I have a buddy that is a hardcore flyfisherman - his most productive pattern? "the garden hackle" He says the "real" fly guys give him dirty looks as he flicks that earthworm back and forth! Sacriledge!! Sometimes a little somethin-somethin can make all the difference
