Well here we go again, the great debate. My top producers are roe bags, natural steelhead roe, pink worms and bugs. With blades coming in as a clean up Naturals -Roe bags -Bugs (sand shrimp) -Natural steelhead roe -Cured coho -Dew worm -Prawn (bad karma, hate them!) Artificials -Pink worm -Jig (chartruese!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ) -Colorado blade -Spin'n glow -Jensen egg -Gooey bob

Easy enough.... For big spring nates: 1. Worms 2. Spoons/Spinners 3. Bait And when water conditions are low/clear and cold like they where for the last few weeks, Jigs and paddletails. In all honesty though i use worms and spoons 90% of the time, they get big fish

welll like queets guy said it all depends on the river conditons but i my favorite baits would deff. have to be.... 1.Drift gear with a quite big size egg cluster and pink yarn and maybe a small pink corky 2.Bobber and small egg cluster.. jake seen this work before 3.Bobber with a jig and maybe some raw prawn

For big winter runs, spoons, plugs, worms all attract big steelhead. Sure you will catch fish on the other gear, but i can guarantee you spoons/plugs/worms you will get bigger fish 99% of the time. Bait has its time and place, when allowed a good old fashioned egg cluster or sandshrimp/prawns.

If legal I guess I depend on a variety of techniques though I have some that seem to see a lot of action....
1. Drifting eggs.....both for numbers and size of fish and works well in a variety of water conditions 2. Jigs......especially in low water 3. Plugs.....big fish love them 4. Worms.....Ditto 5. Spoons....works really well in warmer water or if you want to cover a lot of water in a hurry
Just all depends on the available conditions, pressure etc. Some techniques seem to work better under different water or pressure conditions.

i'm talking big vedder fish, hatch or nate, and dumb north shore fish, that see 2 baits a season.
I think, bait, pink worms and jigs are sweet. With hardware coming in a close 3rd place. Bait deffinetly takes 1st place

eggs, prawns, sand shrimp, in any order and in all conditions. i like nightcrawlers on occasion but i tend to forget about them in the fridge and the results end up almost as bad as forgotten sand shrimp my favorite steelhead artificials are silver spinners and gooey bobs. out of all the jig fishing i've done since first trying it 3 years ago, i've only hooked 2 steelhead and landed 1. of course, i don't want to even think of the number of chums i've caught that way

since I only have Bank fished forever,i like eggs and or sand shrimp.but for the un-naturals i like jigs w/Pimp Paddle worms or just Pimp Plastic worms rigged floppy style seem to work good for me. I have used many different name brands of plastic worms in my many days of bank fishing,BUT,Kramer has opened up a hole new can of worms for my fishing style, but to be honest, jig w/worm in Any condition works great Never count out the old school methed just simple yarn & corkie maybe even wing bobber

One thing I've noticed is steelhead vary between rivers to a certain degree. I know 2 rivers on the puget sound where on one river the fish prefer shrimp over eggs by quite a bit but on the other, which isn't too terribly far away, overwhelming prefer eggs. This could be simply a crazy confidence issue I have, but its just something I've picked up.
Same things with chinook to a degree.

As said before alot depends on the water conditions and the river. I prefer to start with home cured eggs and follow with shrimp if no hits. Try a spinner and spoon and then move on. If I can get a good drift I like to try my jigs, I prefer to catch on spinners and spoons when they are aggressive. My last nate (16#) was on a RVFR 2/5 50-50 and he hit it hard and the fun began. With all that said seeing bobber go down is fun too. I just like to catch fish!!!!
