so i just picked up a Creek Company ODC 1018 saturday. the boat is only a year old and is in perfect shape. came with oars, and bags but no anchor  Tongue. i know alot of guys say anchoring in pontoon boats on the river can be hectic and ive been reading alot on this and it sounds pretty bad. but i was just wondering what you guys think is the best anchor for toons... just a straight up led anchor?? or a bag you can fill with rocks or whatever you want. barbless already gave me some good ideas but i was wondering if anyone had any experince with the anchor bags? and if im using led what pound anchor should i run? creek company said to run a 12 pound anchor with this boat but that seems a bit small in my book. my pontoon is 10 feet long and has 20inch pontoons on it. any information would be great and i will use to decide my anchor. thanks for your help guys!  Grin

12 pound anchor should be fine....
I wouldn't anchor in anything where you would need a 30 pound anchor like a drift boat.
Besides do you wanna row with a extra 30 pounds?  Grin

Just get a 10-12 pound pyrmid anchor.  Will be plenty to anchor anywhere you should anchor a pt boat.  All you really need is something to keep it from floating away while you get out and fish.  Have tried to fish out of one enough to know that it is better just to get out and fish instead of trying to hastle with fishing out of it.

Creek Company may have recommended that anchor size because anything bigger could be unsafe. I had an 18lb on my 10lb boat and it would hold in slow/medium flow but not in fast water. Don't mess around with moving water.

I was thinking of moving up to a 30 lb. from my current 25 lb pyramid!  Wink

Bob, DONT GO THAT BIG!!!

One place where you can go big is on anchor rope... don't screw around with that 1/4' stuff, go with at least 3/8".  I found a good deal awhile back on some that is .42", and I really liked it.  The thinner diameter crap will dig into your hands everytime you go to pull anchor.  Also, did your boat come with an anchor system (pulleys, cleat, etc.), or are having to add that too?

Unless you have a whitewater ready boat, I wouldn't put an anchor on it that was any heavier than needed to keep it from floating away in almost still water...anchoring a non-whitewater boat in moderate to fast water could be disastrous, and quick.

Fish on...

Todd

P.S.  I use a 35# anchor in mine.
