We put on somewhat of a clinic last week on the peninsula. Weather was good, fishing was good at times and great at others.  this is an area were you need to put away all your normal steelheading tactics to find the biters.  The ticket was 1/24th ounce jigs on size 2 Matzuo sickle hooks.  For the first 12 fish once they were hooked they didn't come loose.  Number 13 was a different story.  I think i had 8 missed takes or hooksets that didn't stick.  The 3-weight spinning rod i made for Cutts and I also were a blast.  It accounted for 11 of my 12 and 5 of justin's 9 fish.  Here are a couple pics

we definately had to work for them but managed some willing biters here and there.  We have been eating steelhead 1-2 times per week.

I know that spot. Were you guys lucky enough to be fishing alone? The last time I fished there, the anglers, not really anglers, on the other side of the bank thought it was a good idea to fish blue fox # 5's in the gin clear pool. That is in adition to the other guys tossing bait under a float with about a 1/2 oz. in-line weight. We were doomed before we even started fishing. Cry

Most days there was only a guy or two there.  Yeah, one spinner tosser but we fished around him.  The spinner guy did land a nice big buck there but that was it....  Pretty quiet up there.  Just the way I like it!

SRT, thats sad to hear. sucks big time when that happens. Looks like nice baitwater if fished properly.

Nope............Not good bait water.Too many trout and smolt.I tried tipping my jigs with bait my freshman year and I learned it was not a good Idea. Must approach this area much different than any other area that I fish.......It is kind of all its own.....  It definitely has its own learning curve.OMC and Cutts have it figured out but many other do not! I am glad I have had some real good teachers/coaches! Cool

That is a great spot to fish, and one to keep to your self. Recently, it sire has been redefining the idea of working for your fish. So low and clear. We were runnin 1/16 oz jigs on 6-8 lb/ leaders, surgeoun knotted to the mainline under a tiny round cork float. About as light and un-invasive as it gets, but I am glad to see it worked out for you. Whats this about a 3 weight spinning rod? You have me curious.
