Well ever since last x mas when I got my good fly setup I have dropped the gear fishing all together, and actualy had good succsess on fishing, 2 summer iron heads and countless pinks. But there is still some stuff that I just don't really get so im gonna throw em out there for ya and I know some of you pro's out there know this stuff, I want to know what is the diffrance between type l, type ll, type lll and intermediet tips I just don't get it, and some other things like what is a skagit head ? Is that just for spey guys or can us other guys use it ? And is just better to have it for heavyer flys ? And also what is slime line and its advantegs? Sorry I know its a lot but its bothering me I really want to know this stuff. Sorry for the spelling I don't have time to spell check it.

The types your thinking of are sinking tips and/or lines.  It goes from floating, intermediate (very slow sink), type 1 (little faster), type 2 (little more faster) and up to type 14 which is very heavy sinking.  If you do some research on the web you can find out the ips (inches per second) for all the tips.   And the head systems are for speys and switch set ups, skagit, scandi....ect  Just different applications of spey lines.  Im not a big spey fishermen so I cant give in detail the different spey line systems, all I know is Im not half bad at a snap T.   Grin

Skagit and scandi, or scandinavian, are different types of spey lines geared towards different styles of spey casting with different styles of spey rods. If I am correct, skagit rods are stiffer, and don't flex as far down as scandi rods do, and use a line geared for this. Scandi rods bend all the way to the handle with lines to match this. Either way it is a great way to fish, and something I am going to be pursuing more.

Thx for the info guys, its just somtimes the net dosnt give the best info on this stuff so its hard to research some of this stuff, plus im the only one in my group  who fly fishes so im kinda the lone ranger hear. But im really digging this fly fishing stuff I injoy the fight of the fish a lot better then gear fishing so that's why I pretty much boxed it up lol so hopefully this winter I will be doing some spey fishing and it seems like the skagit lines are used for heavy flys from what im getting from this and it sounds like somthing im going to persue since I like throwing heavyer flys during winter time. But once again thanks for the info.

Fly fishing is way fun. I do it mostly for everything except select salmon fisheries and steelhead, if givin the right conditions I will fish my bug rod for steelhead.  What hooked me into fly fishing was fighting fish on bug rods, the presentation and the cast becuase its all you.  What Im trying to get at is I hope your not use to catching steelhead on most every outing becuase for the most part the will probley change with a fly rod if you havn't found that out already, especially if your starting out.  Ive only hooked a few and landed a couple but your best bet for getting it down and saving mass hours on the river getting skunked is to hire a guide so you can get the basic swing of things.  If you dont catch fish that day at least you will go out on the river next time and know what your doing is half right. Join Washingtonflyfishing.com, there is enough info on that site to keep a person locked behind their computer screen for days.  Wink

Washington fly fishing forum I am apart of and I have been lookin on there for days lol, I center pin fish my self for iron heads a lot and get atleast a couple fish on the bank every other trip, but I know it won't be that way with this fly stuff, but that's really not the point why im doing it, its just a more pure form of fishing and I like that a lot and it was a huge thing for me to land a steely with a bug rod, landed my first steely 2 weeks ago on the green, mission accomplished in my opinion but the fight was amazing better then any other rig I have used ill tell ya that ! But I have only been using my bug rod since I got it last winter and that's all I have  been using period. So it paid off finally ! But doing the guide thing is somthing I have gave a lot of thought to and that's somthing I will be doing to be honest I don't think im gonna use my gear any longer hehe. Im sooooo into this I can't wait to hook into more ! I really don't care if it takes me a couple more months to hook into another that's what stee heading is all about anyways. Just nothing like a fly rod. Thanks for the much needed info bro.
