I'm going to give this setup a try soon but just wanting some advise. gonna start off w/ a 1/4 ounce nitemare pattern jig w/ a single egg trailing on a #2hook  or a 1/4 ounce 2 salmon bead jig w/ a small pink marabou fly #2 hook.thinking using more for winter runs and next year summers. any advise will help. i could post pics of the 4 pattens i have all ready to give you an idea on what i got going. thanks

Its an effective way to fish especially if you suspect fish to be laying at different depths. This is a fast way to cover holding water, and with the advent of a second pattern can score you a fish that wouldn't have taken you primary pattern.

now also would this setup go against some of my local river regs w/ the "anti snagging rule"
w/ the One single point hook part?

Good catch. I would say that it would just to avoid any violations.

How are you guys tying your droppers on? On the bend of the shank?

i think that ridiculous because its on a float not saying its not possable (i have foul hooked a pink w/ bobber and eggs be for "don't know how" but 99% of all fish on a bobber are biters un like corkie and yarn 5-15% (at the most)

i just went to sport co and got some Over The Edge Tackle dropper jig heads. The hook looks and feel strong and the paint looks good as well. Haven't fished them yet so i cant say my dropper jigs cant catch fish "yet!" i will get a pic of the setup soon

While I like the idea (always have), but used a different way.  For me it just seemed like more hassle and potential damage to a fish that takes the top lure.  If the fish takes the top lure that bottom rig will be getting wrapped and potentially body hooked during the fight...  If the fish always takes the bottom lure, well then what is the point of fishing the tandem??  But the potential to body hook and cause undue damage to the fish is the ultimate reason that dissuaded me from pursuing it.  Perhaps that is not going to happen...
Those over the edge rigs look like the ultimate way to fish that set up though, I'll probably end up using those for a little different application  Wink

Good luck with the experiment and let us know how it works, I hope my fears are unfounded.

I've used this set-up with a glo-bug dropper with success.  In general, I have found that the fouling of the two while casting is a big pain in the *ss.  Once it fouls once, you can expect a foul every other cast.

There are a few kinds of steelhead fishing; fly, float, drift, spoon, spinner, plugs, boondoggin, bobberdoggin,.... and then there is float fishing in 18\" of water.  Put that in your pipe and smoke it! Afro

be sure your dropper has the same amount of weight as your jig.  Trust me.....  Been there, done that.  Light dropper on jig = tangled mess.....

I would worry about a fish finding some woody debry ounce hooked .
Its bad enough just having line rub against some wood but with that exposed point it would sure be a concern.

i sold a dropper jig for years. i hated that dang thing. it was a pain to cast. i had so many people want it that i kept selling it. when i took it off the site i got a bunch of emails asking to get some if i had any left.  so i guess enough people like them.  i did get  a fair number of steelies on them when i tested them. i just think the  extra pain in the butt isn't worth the pay off.  that is just my personal opinion.
i think those over the edge lead heads are pretty slick.   i bet they keep it very well balanced.  let us know how you do on them.
