Has anyone made many of these, and would be willing to share some basic patterns that would be good for a starting experiment?

Thanks

Stick wilth marabou patterns. They are quick to tie, durable, effective, and did I mention effective. I would stick with wadington shanks, they are less of a hasle and don't require anything special in the way of equipment. Besides you get the same advantages of a small hook with a wadington shank as you do with a tube.

Thanks for the replies. YG those are some great looking flies.

Now about the Waddingtons. Are they the ones that are just a shank that you trail a stinger off of, or am I wrong about that? Also what is your common length for attaching a stinger behind the first hook, and how do you secure them?

Here is a pic of the waddington shanks http://www.flyfishusa.com/fly-tying/waddington.htm The problem with them is they are hard to hold in a vise, you have to hold the shank by one of the eyes. Here is a site to show how to attach the trailer hook. http://www.isomedia.com/homes/celestev/inst/pn/inst_intruder.pdf
