Thank you for writing. I certainly agree in concept that we shouldn't be subsidizing commercial fishing interests with license fees from recreational fishers. I understand your concern that the Governor's current proposal to shift $1.5 million from the State Wildlife Account would, as you say, "force recreational license buyers to subsidize commercial fishing interests," but as far as I can tell the proposal is not quite that straightforward. I do not pretend to be an expert in this area, but I'm told that the $1.5 million proposed transfer comes not from recreational license fees but from a subaccount in the State Wildlife Fund that is funded by penalties paid by the current online license vendor for not meeting requirements to improve the online license system.  Having said all that, I could be wrong about the details of the specific proposal, as it was not included in our special session budget.
