Every once and a while, you have to love when a day just........ comes together.

Unfortunately the low water in No Ca. kept me from meeting up with some long time fishing buddies,  But another buddy needed to get away for a day.  Brian grabbed his son and made the drive.   It was cold,  I pleaded my case that there was no need to be on the water while it was still dark!  Woke up at seven, made some eggs and were on our way.  All the while Brian was chomping at the bit.........

Being a Saturday, I had already made up my mind that we would need to walk to find some new water.  But as we came around the bend, there wasn't a single car in the pullout.   Wow,  hit the best holes with nothing.  I had planned to target one spot, but since no one was there I jumped in a run that I really wanted to fishfrom before.  Caught a rock or two..... and headed back to plan A.   Found out that a couple of other guys had gone up river, so I sat put and tried to spot fish till the others were done.

We decided to head up stream.   Got to the spot I wanted to fish earlier, and there wasn't a sole to be seen.  First or second cast, nice scrappy little girl.  Now for the water I had never seen.  Boulder hopping and bush wacking for a mile or two we came upon a fast run, not all that deep, but had a little chop and a boulder in it.  The chop I thought could provide cover, since the water was low and gin clear.  I hit a fish for a couple of head shakes then the hook pulled.  Very next cast I was chasing a fish down stream.  A couple of minutes later Brian was landing another nice one.  This had happened so quick - in a place that we weren't shure would hold fish- that we sat back and let things settle down so that Clint would have a chance at one.  With a little coaching....... and then just backing off to let him do his thing......  wham.   The 2 adults would interject thier 2 cents every once and awhile, but other that that it was a solo act.  We even made him tail his own fish.

We had found a little pod of fish,  Landed 3 / lost 4 / 2-3 possible.  It was getting late and I wanted to show them another beautiful section of this river before I had to get home.......

Now for the icing on the cake.   The reason I needed to get home was that the Donkeys (wifes team) were playing my Patriots. Could not have asked for a better ending tothe day.  Hopefully next week the D-fence will still be rocking, but Its going to be a tough one for them.

Just curious what everyone thinks.....  The 2nd pic, that fish was 32-33 inches long, had nice shoulders but the back half was marginally thin.  Also if you look at the anal fin, It is torn up.   Is this fish a summer run or a winter run?
