« Topic Start: January 16, 2012, 11:05:22 AM »

Recently there was some equipment stolen from the steelhead rearing pond facility for the South Fork Toutle river. Angry  Cowlitz Game and Anglers (http://www.cowlitzgameanglers.com) , a sportsmans club, through volunteer efforts and fundraising maintains a small plant of summer run steelhead on this beautiful little river.  An event like this theft is not something an organization of their size has the budget to absorb without difficulty.  I know quite a few on this site that enjoy this fishery, and even if you don't participate in it, this is the kind of cooperative effort that as an angler is meaningful to lend your support.
There is no native run of summer steelhead here and the plant is small enough to not have negative effects on other native fish.  WDFW delivers fry to the holding ponds sometime in early february and from that point until their release as smolt Cowlitz Game and Anglers feed and care for the fish through volunteer efforts.
Here is the article about the theft:

I have been in contact with the president of Cowlitz Game and Anglers and he is very appreciative of any help we can lend.

I will be putting up an auction for some hand tied jigs that I will tie for the winner and maybe come up with some other items for auction.  Anybody that would like to contribute can contact me or post their auction up under the auction forum.

If you would like to simply make a donation, you can make your check out to:
Cowlitz Game & Anglers - Steelhead

Box 1061
Longview, WA 98632

and either send it in yourself with "Steelhead Notebook" in the note line or you can send your check to me and I will be forwarding all the funds received from auctions to CG&A.

Thanks Kyle and Ed great
Be sure to put "Steelhead Notebook" in the notes area on your check, so that we can know how we did for a total.  Also, be sure to include "Steelhead" on the address on your envelope after Cowlitz Game and Anglers so that the money is directed towards the SF toutle account.

Cheers,
Jason

Like most internet fishermen, Steve, I live in a fantasy land where every little trickle of water has fish in it to catch  Grin

Thank you all for supporting my delusion  Wink Cool  You know I'd do the same for you laugh

Last call for donations.  I'd like to send the checks along sometime this week - right now I've received payment of $50 for the hardware auction and a $40 donation.  I'd like to get the rest of the auctions wrapped up and any donations in so I can mail it in by this upcoming friday.

With what has been auctioned and the $40 donation we will have raised $175, my goal was to raise the $250 needed for the fence repairs.  The fence is important because it helps to keep out predators such as the otters that have done significant damage to the fish in the past.

Thanks Everyone for Helping out! Cool

Thanks Bob!   beer Really appreciate it as I know it is a tough time for sending money out.   These are the kind of little projects that really will make a difference for our fishing opportunities into the future as state budgets constrict and political choices are made.

Ok guys, the winner of the jig auction is MIA, so I've re-opened bidding for the dozen jigs with an end date of next monday the 6th at 7pm - see the original auction thread to bid.

Also, if the original winner does show up and respond I'll honor that auction as well Smiley
