Book Description
Abstract: Advice on eating problems gleaned from interviews with 99 cancer patients and their families is provided to aid concerned patients in finding ways to eat well and to enjoy eating despite problems caused by the disease or by therapy. The 5 general eating problems that were identified include nausea and vomiting, appetite loss, mouth soreness and dryness, tired feeling, and interestinal upset. Taste-tested recipes evaluated by a regional visiting nurses agency were selected to solve these eating pro blems. Each of the recipes are designated as accepatable or unacceptable in each of 4 dietary restriction categories (low fat, low lactose, low sodium, sugar-free), and contain information on calories, protein, or other nutrients. Introductory information and advice is given on: the importance of eating well; general and cancer specific eating problems; the amounts of protein and calories needed; and food substitutions and limitations for special dietary restrictions.
